Trump's Alaska Disaster Was Worse Than You Think
I sat with this piece for a while.
I dashed out a big part of it Friday night in my head, and knew where to take it…or so I thought. Then I realized my “don’t write angry” rule is no longer in effect.
Donald J. Trump went to Alaska this week, and America came home on its knees.
The “summit” between Trump and Vladimir Putin was not a negotiation, not a peace process, not even a serious attempt at diplomacy. It was a reality-TV set piece where the world’s most servile, cheap crook slobbered over the boots of a KGB thug and called it greatness. The strongman from Moscow got everything he wanted: a photo op on American soil, global legitimacy restored, and a pliant orange supplicant eager to sell out Ukraine and humiliate the United States in front of the world/
You don’t have to imagine it. American troops on their hands and knees literally rolling out a red carpet (at Trump’s insistence) for Vladimir Putin, war criminal, architect of mass murder, unrepentant dictator.
Trump honored Putin, after we saw America’s most famous dementia case sstudy weaving a drunkard’s walk down the tarmac, bouncing up and down to meet his idol, smacking his nubby hands together like a child. A B-2 and F-22 fighters roared overhead. Trump, grinning like a small-town pageant queen who just got noticed by Hollywood, personally chauffeuring his master into the presidential limo.
