Excellent analysis. it makes me sick to see what's happening to investigative journalism. We no longer believe the news or figures emanating from the White House. Whom do we believe? During this Iran war - we've gotten what appears to be more truth from Iran than our own press/government. This is some scary shit. Bari Weiss is a shanda far di goyim.

What a truly refreshing read. The word that is echoing in my head about all these dupes and rubes is "hubris."

"Hubris refers to extreme, unreasonable pride, arrogance, or self-confidence. A person exhibiting hubris overestimates their own abilities, power, or knowledge to the point of ignoring their limitations, dismissing warnings, and ultimately courting their own downfall."

This one short word says everything about what has happened to our Democracy. The ultimate test is at hand. The defeat of hubris.

I will echo all the others here, Rick. Brilliant, insightful, terrifying and 100% true. Thank you for this powerful and truly masterful “work of art.” We are in the late death spiral of this country and so few know or care.

Trump & his buddies are doing the same thing to the US. Destroying it from the inside.

Nobody remembers the names of the Pravda and Izvestia editors in the Stalin Purge years either.

“They want all the sugar, all the fat, all the caffeine, all the Brawndo-style electrolytes of sloppy populist rage.” Just. Fucking. Awesome. Bravo, brother.

I've been skeptical for years. I grew up with Uncle Walter. The man who could change the direction of a bad war by changing his mind. News was never meant to be a part and parcel of 'the entertainment channel', but an adjunct. It was not meant to be a profit center, but a center of truth. I can remember when both printed and transmitted news rooms had major research departments, searching out bits and pieces to create the real story, not just a glossy of what the 'establishment' wanted you to see.

The other day my wife, never an activist, said she was considering giving up CBS Morning, because it was part of the News Operation, and she wanted to send an ever so tiny message. Amazing. She, years ago, was a traditional Kansas Republican, but the GOP attitude towards women, and teachers (like unions) and the like appalled her. I never worked to convert her, but did provide for her the knowledge of what was really going on. She made the decision absolutely on her own to leave the party her family had been a member of for years. I'm sure some of them blamed me.

I just don't watch CBS, even before this. Too many years of pathetic preaching programming, from NCIS, to CIS, to FBI, to Blue Bloods, to ad infinitum. There's a theme going there, right? I'm willing to bet that Efrem Zimbalist, Jr would be embarrassed by today's FBI program. But then again, J Edgar would be appalled at today's FBI. Now that's scary.

The problem with the fire starters is that they don't think, or care, about the collateral damage to other things by their actions. Now Trumpees, they don't care. They'll stand surrounded by the inferno with no way out with goofy grins on their faces and be oblivious to their own doom.

Sad.

Thanks, Rick. This is one of your best.

This is Putin’s technique. Get rid of real journalists, install state propaganda

Corruption explodes when there is no investigative journalists. That’s what the white collar criminals want

The private equity analogy is quite apt for what's happening in this country. We've been bought, currently being stripped for parts, laden with unsustainable debt, while the "partners " line their pockets. We the People are being pushed out of our "jobs" without a safety net or our pension. (By jobs i mean our jobs as citizens, and by pension i mean any rights We'd thought were solid: voting rights, due process, rule of law.) It's maddening, nauseating, but an all-too American style ending for an otherwise great experiment. I wish I were more optimistic.

"A tote bag". She got a tote bag. And probably ruined that too

I take issue with only one thing: "Diet Fox"? I see her, Ellison and Paramount going Fox X 10.

Btw, has anyone ever seen Ellison and Gums in the same room? Two nepo babies, burning shit down, profoundly lacking in self awareness and intellect, but overloaded with chutzpah

Speaking of nepos, how 'bout our boy Pulte?

The billionaires who run this world are the thin skinned martinets Adam Smith designed capitalism in order to counter them. They are no different than the monarchs of old, and it’s no coincidence whatsoever that they seek to institute a new monarchy with them as the monarchs to rule over the stupid and lazy masses.
