…stating that slavery taught “valuable skills”? Jesus, WTF? What’s in the water down there, or the air, (or the curriculum in the schools?). Good lord, he’s still in office after publicly saying something that ignorant? There are few peoples who have never been enslaved to some degree…possibly uneducated white men — who haven’t (yet) been incarcerated — are the only group who don’t fully comprehend the horrors of slavery. No comprehension of the suffering of others at all. Desantis has outed himself as a complete psychopath. And he’s in charge of the State of Florida.

I’m very grateful there are people like Rick to speak truth to corrupt power. He calls it out for what it is — but I don’t think we have long to wait for the Putinesque extremes of corrupt behavior to appear. Intel “gave” a 10% stake to Trump? Ivana Trump “fell” down the stairs? Bondi and Patel are 4th-raters who would never have reached their current level of authority without Trump/MAGA, and are willing to do ANYTHING to retain it. His appointees are all 4th-rate and corrupt - like him. He doesn’t want anyone competent or honest standing in his way. Bongino, Rubio, anyone who doesn’t show 100% fealty to The Donald better tread carefully.

As a fellow Southerner whose grandmother grew up in Milton, not too far from your grandmother, I want to say thank you for this! Agree 💯 with all you said. By the way on the rewrite history stuff in Florida, state Rep 2 has pointed out in his sanctimonious way that some slaves were paid and Florida’s students have a right to learn that part of the story too. I guess he didn’t read the part about how these contracts were between property owners. Did any enslaved person receive the full value of his labor? What he received was dependent on what the property owner decided to share. I am so tired of the ignorance masquerading as righteous outrage. These snowflakes are Making America Weak.

We have enjoyed and followed the Smithsonian Magazine for many years and we take great interest and pleasure in this incredible INSTITUTION that has represented all Parts of these UNITED STATES...for good and for evil...The Smithsonian has stood for TRUTH and reliability of the sacred knowledge of this nation , in all ways, has shown our terriblle errors as well as the majesties of so many wonderful people. To have the felon desecrate this Brilliant Institution is evil beyond all comprehension. I can not make this anymore important that the destruction or altering of truth will do to us as a people.. This monument of knowledge and FREEDOM must be preserved!!! For all PEOPLE!!! Knowledge never learned in schools may be found here..I highly recommend subscribing to this wonderful magazine and help save the Smithsonian!!!

Gotta say, the thought of erasing history is something that probably NEVER EVER occurred to the majority of us. It’s beyond my comprehension but then again I’m not remotely like that malignant narcissistic, evil, cruel,💯 ignorant fascist DJT who never has, nor ever will get it. He’s an anomaly of an anomaly. The WORLD, let alone the USA, wouldn’t be where it is, good, bad or evil, without history.

tRUMP fails to see HIS Autocratic efforts will go down in history in the manner he’s trying to change it today. The USA alone does NOT write or own history. It’s a worldwide phenomenon that, thankfully, one man alone CANNOT change

FOTUS sees everything thru his eyes and according to him...everything...and, he keeps sticking his ridiculous ideas on the way things should be, like a writer of the gospels...The Gospels according to trump...bah, I don't recall ever seeing his name in the bible...maybe he snuck it in that $60 'God Bless the USA' bible he's hawking, tho. He is an invasive species...a spawn of Satan.

I am greatly concerned that Trump will have the exhibits not just removed, and replaced with fantasy, but that he'll have MAGA types then take those exhibits, especially those containing original items, and destroy them. It will be another version of the FBI and the Epstein files.

Following that, you can be assured that the Moms for Liberty will demand a purging of the Library of Congress of all 'woke' writings and other 'woke' artifacts. The honest librarians will be replaced by true ideologues with absolutely no knowledge of the topics they are supposedly curating. And all those doing research will have to pass background checks to make sure they're the 'right kind' of folk following the proscribed doctrines of MAGA.

But I can't wait for the Christian Nationalists to demand those gawd awful paintings by right wing nutjobs showing Jesus directing the establishment of our country be placed in the most viewable locations and with "TRUTH" in giant letters above them.

The darkness is upon us, and is working fast to destroy the vestiges of the light. G-d help us all.

Scary times ,scary times...a sniff of sulphur...Jesus fought for his people in the ways he knew about..so called Christians haven't really understood what the man stood for..It's been up to all of us to follow the logic and ethical teachings for humanity's sake... Jesus' requirements to help mankind are still good whether or not one is religious...

Jesus taught us that humility, and kindness, and the meaning of the greatest law were what is important. He accepted all, not just the few who immediately agreed with him, slave, soldier, fisherman, scholar.

But the right wants their fantasy Rambo Jesus. Riding in on an armored Tyrannosaurus carrying an M4 (successor to the M16) and trampling on all those who aren't "HIS kind". Give me a break.

Then again, the Christian Nationalist right want to believe that by merely 'professing' that they believe in Jesus all their sins are forgiven and all is well, no matter how they live their lives. IMO, if you don't at least try to live the life Jesus talked about, then your claim that you believe in HIM is empty. Being totally successful isn't required, but an honest effort shows your belief.

Trump messing with our history, a thing he knows NOTHING about, and could care less is an abomination.

Rick, you clearly have a strong moral code. Trump doesn’t even know how to spell the word. Or any word, most likely. As a side note, I think it was Mary Trump who commented that one of Donald’s big gripes about the Smithsonian is that it’s looking backwards, not talking about the future. Ummm…because it’s HISTORY, you asshat.
