Neither of those outcomes would have improved the Dem's reputation. In fact it would have damaged it a helluva lot more than it is right now!

In the military arts a strategic retreat can be used to lure the enemy into a unprotectable salient which can then be surrounded pinched off and destroyed. If we're going to talk about anything let's talk about what the Democrats can do now that they've initiated a strategic retreat in this one tiny little tactical area called the government shutdown which is one of thousands of different tactics the Democrats are trying. You wouldn't be so voluntarily ignorant as to believe that the damage being caused by the continued federal shutdown wasn't harming any innocent people at all and that not even one child was going without a full three meal day when the SNAP benefits got cut off. Is it truly your position that millions must die so that some people can get more affordable health insurance? There was a time in the shutdown when the GOP could have been shamed into submission, but the GOP has proven itself immune to shame. In fact they have made it a point of pride to elevate criminality and immorality as their new twin gods and nothing and I mean nothing will shake them from that position short of an actual violent murderous civil war. So the Democrats to retain any semblance of respectability morality and goodwill Have to figure out a way to avoid the violent civil War outcome and still push the GOP off of their Royal oligarchical screw the little people pedestal.
I have always believed that a person has the right to choose their own path and lifestyle. With that attitude I don’t talk about other people’s choices or even think about them. The democrats keep taking the bait from the right and it’s cost them dearly. They put the outside interests front and center which turns off the majority of Americans.
The kind of extreme libertarianism that you're pitching has never worked for governing actual groups of people. I'm talking about communities, especially large national communities of people we refer to as citizens of a nation. Take for example American citizens. What you were saying is that if a government looks out for the interests of more than one American citizen, then that is worse than communism, because the entire government is not just limiting all of its powers and capabilities to just helping you alone and no other person. Individuality is great and all, but no man is an island and no person can ever live without a community. Your fellow Americans are not worthless "outside interests." The GLP knows this and that's why they've bent over backwards to give so many benefits and so much of the public tax dollars away to all the ultra wealthy "outside interests" who aren't you.
