I don't have the same view on why that orange thing pushes for lower rates (that it knows inflation's coming). Actually, it'll be a miracle if we don't see the dreaded STAGFLATION (high inflation plus high unemployment). The Fed has no tools to fight this; in the '80s, we had rates 20%+.

Anyway, I taught college Economics after my day job (Mgmt and Finance), on nights and weekends, for 12 years. The Fed was always considered to be totally independent and held in high regard (trusted) for that. The last time putin managed to get that orange thing installed into our White House, it pressured Powell endlessly to lower rates. The self-proclaimed 'king of debt' has billions in adjustable rate loans, and lower rates reduce its monthly payments YUGELY. It destroys the economy so the rates will necessarily decrease. Last time, after creating the 'Great Recession', it pushed and pushed Powell for negative rates in the U.S. (other countries resorted to that), but never got there.

As a saver and not a debtor, I earned next to nothing while that orange thing was installed. With negative interest rates, not only do savers earn nothing, but they actually have to pay banks to hold their money.

Under REAL President Biden, I began earning again, and it's been good. Now, rates are once again decreasing and so are my earnings (in retirement).

Of course that orange thing wants to push Powell out, and get one of its order-obeying MAGAs in there.

Molly's right on target with one key thing: Americans can be good with anything except inconvenience. And they're about to get it in glorious technicolor, though most don't know it yet. The LAST time in American history that America was faced with protracted or widespread consumer and industrial supply shortages was WWII. The pandemic was a relatively short shock, and was bad enough. High prices are one thing, but just CAN'T GET something? What even the fuck?!? How they act then is completely unknown and unbounded. And there is no steady old hand at the tiller telling us there is nothing to fear but fear itself, no national goal or shared threat to address. Just one bloated mango who everybody know by now (admit it or not) is insane. The effects will be with us a long, long time. But let's just sit back and enjoy it for a while longer before doing anything about it.

I am a protestant. Love the new Pope. Good to listen to someone that knows the scriptures and the teaching of Jesus.
