What about the bill in HI that blocks Citizens United??

Merrie Soltis's avatar

Why not Gavin? Republicans will eat him for lunch. Do you want to see him defend the law where non parents can bring trans minors to California and keep custody? Or the trans athletes? Or a million other California problems? People think Kamala lost because she was a black woman, but being from California was probably a bigger strike against her than either of those things.

So my vote for president in Beshear, VP Buttigieg; Attorney General Letitia James- can you think of anyone who knows trump and his criminal family better? She will strike terror into trumps decrepit heart (if he has one), Mark Kelly for Defense, Kamala for Sec of state (very important - this person is going to have to build back our alliances and maybe even make them stronger, oh and a side note- for assistant AG - Jack Smith. We must build back trust in the rule of law and I cannot think of two better people. For Homeland Security Governor of New Mexico Michelle Lujan Grisham (term runs out in 2027). Must be very careful where we get these qualified people- cannot risk losing the gavel in either house or senate. I don't know who for CIA or FBI.

I love this more than I can say. Awesome, fun, smart. Please, 🙏 keep doing ‘The Porch.’ (Nancy in Seattle.)

Maybe there's an unwritten rule among media peeps that you don't criticize each other.

Is there?

If so, you need to make an exception for Smerconish, the worst, weakest, most enabling POS in the biz. With an asshole like Hannity, you know what you're getting: A slobbering, ass licking, Trump sycophant. A clown

Smerconish (like Chuck Toad and Cillizza) is just as dangerous because he presents himself as fair, down the middle. Always give Trump a break if you can. Actually is defending Trump's comment "I don't care if anyone is under financial pressure".

Imagine that. This guy needs to be run off the internet like a a scared cat

I absolutely LOVE this!!!! Do this WEEKLY please for what's left of my sanity between what's going on in the world, being a single mom, working in healthcare and in school for my dual specialty as a nurse practitioner (which is no longer a recognized degree or profession apparently, but somehow I still get called to see if I can come in on most of my days off)

How do you know that Mofo won't eat you alive.

He doesn't. Florida Man doesn't need to ;)

Rick Wilson's avatar

It's always a risk.

Bob McKeown's avatar

And the point in the equation where the risk outweighs the YOLO ;)

this is great.. you two are adorable, and rick is my spirit animal

That was SO much fun! You two remind me of me and my hubby when we sit on the back porch at the end of a long day working in the garden, still in our grubbies, opening a bottle of wine and having our friends over, in their garden grubbies, and the conversation ranges across every topic under the sun. PLEASE do this again!! We'll be here!!

Not far from you in Lakeshore. Humidity already at 7 walking the dogs.

Goodness, it's the World's Most Adorable Couple -- you two are to coupledom what Millicent Fenwick was to Republican ladies ;). If any religious trad couples watched I'm sure they got very jelly at the way Renee finished Rick's sentences. It really is like the Mutual Brain is in a fish tank in the other room and the two of you are connecting to it with wifi ;). And a Renee au naturel is a nice Renee to look at, anyway. Just basking in the evanescent comfort of the porch preheat season.

I'd give the two remaining eye teeth which anchor my dentures for my girl Fightin' Liz Warren to run again, but alas, she's too old. Not exactly a strategic candidate either, more a niche pick for educated liberals like Yours Truly who want to do the Renee thing and make the assholes eat rules of the road. (I was a C-SPAN guy in the 80s, was riveted to the Clarence Thomas hearings.)

Renee's a watch girl? She must _adore_ the tourbillon in the Trump watches, LOL. I'm not a watch guy. I mean, I'm a music fanatic so I don't believe in obsolescence; whip out a viola da gamba or a theorbo and I'm down. Of course we can always appreciate the craftsmanship. But even quartz watches are obsolete, since nothing is more accurate than the atomic (I think still cesium) clock that drives GPS which updates the time (to the nanosecond) in all our devices.

I got the same clammy feeling in my stomach when I learned about the Apple watch that I did when I learned about Facebook. This is a government surveillance program; all that "health data" gets uploaded into the cloud through the Internet of Shi ... uuh, Things. I'd saw my hand off at the wrist with a rusty hacksaw before I ever put one of those things on.

Then again, I'm also doubtless the last man in North America who refuses to own a smartphone. I think Imma need to form the Luddite Party ;)

Liz Warren: One of the smartest persons I've ever heard speak. But if we're talking national elections, she doesn't play, even when she was younger.

Part of it is style. Not her fault, but as I watch and listen to her speak, even though I agreed with 105% of what she says, there is a preachy-ness, at times almost a schoolmarm tone.

The other part is, she's a she. Just like Rick points out here about there being anti semitism in our party, there's also racism and misogyny. We've shanked two incredibly smart and well qualified women for impossibly stupid reasons. And we'd do the same to Pete, or any Jewish man or woman who runs. This is my purity testing rant, # 285

Bob McKeown's avatar

This is _way_ too early to be backing horses, good buddy, and I've seen no indication anywhere that Liz is interested in another run (and there are many wise reasons she shouldn't be, starting with her age). She's never listed among the possible contenders. I was more making the point to Rick and Renee that she'd be my ideal candidate from a pure ideological perspective. Liz is a cop on the corporate beat and we need her there.

But I have always recognized that politics isn't a lifestyle brand and I always soldier on with the most electable candidate. I canvassed for John Kerry after my man Howard Dean got clobbered. I only had one afternoon of painful angst after Liz dropped out before wholeheartedly backing Joe. I am a proud and loyal, nay Yellow Dog, Democrat.

It's the music I compose that's totally weird. My politics are normal ;)

Bob McKeown's avatar

I hereby will the Luddite Party into existence and since so far I am the only member, I get to make the rules, which are as follows:

1) You must be into _extremely_ weird music.

2) You must acknowledge that even the most beloved technological things in your life are double edged, and their dark sides patiently await their chance to kill you.

;)

In all seriousness, the last person who acted in the spirit of Ned Lud and didn't do his legacy any favors was Theodore Kaczynski. I do not support terrorism. I do not support accelerationism. The Luddite Party is obviously tongue-in-cheek, but I do believe there's a current out there that's even more anti-technology than the early 70s. If some demagogue were actually to take this up, it would draft off the same feels as the anti-vaxxers and anti-5G (I am not anti-5G even facetiously), and rely on what amounts to a quasi-religious conviction.

I think it's quite prudent to be skeptical of technology. We shouldn't reify it, either.
