IE, Nutlick. can never take a guy seriously who comes across on TV as a blathering buffoon and his last name is Nut-lick.

Maybe he fell in love with that Canter Fitzgerald moment in the sun and sees his new job as Commerce Secretary as a chance to become an immortal player. He doesn't want to be mistaken for a mere mortal.

Lutnick like Musk is an obnoxious jerk but also a billionaire who agrees with Trump effort to reconfigure the global economy through tariffs and support for Cryptocurrencies. But it’s a high stakes confrontation with China. They are withholding rare earth minerals and magnets crucial for defense.

Thank you Rick, outstanding analysis of what's going on behind the curtain..... it's really amazing how some of the wealthy people can be so cavalier with other people's money..... I wonder how old Howard would feel if his wealth was significantly diminished by some other dipshit playing fast and loose with his holdings?? Would he just sit back like his MIL and say "oh well, at some point the checks will start coming back in the bank account" ....??? Yeah, he'd go on a freaking rampage. I think someone is going to get hurt as this plays out.

I’ve been following Howard Lutnick for years. My only comment is… HIS MOTHER LOST THE WRONG SON. He is a billionaire greedy billionaire monster!!

Does Lutnick want to crash the US dollar and then move us over to crypto currency? Isn’t that what the tech bros want?

It is all one picture and we should explain it that way….tariffs, deportations, slashing healthcare, education, research, attacks on DEI and LBGTQ, ending alliances, aligning with Russia, plans to expand to Greenland and Canada, incompetent liars at National Security, illegal DOJ, attacks on individuals, attacks on journalism.

Just because they flood the zone doesn’t mean we must see it as one thing after another. It’s all one thing.

I suggest we start with one bipartisan mission MAKE AMERICANS SECURE. financially, with a safety net, with competent defense team, not afraid of our own DOJ.

Having spent the last week considering the wholesale destruction of the US Economy and loss of our standing as the world's reserve currency, who wins in this scenario? Is this administration, Lutnick included, being paid by outside or even internal players to wreck the economy? Or is the payment strictly psychological where seeing people suffering is its own reward.

I think first and foremost, Nutlick and his cohort are completely insulated from all consequences. I think the tariff delusion comes from Trump, who has been rattling on about tariffs since the 80s and Japan was the bugbear eating the American auto and electronics industries; it's the classic idee fixe in the mind of a simpleton. Nutlick should know better (and prior to Trump, he certainly did) but he sold his integrity for access.

Finally, I agree with Kevin below that this unnatural symbiosis with Trump may have more of a psychological than a social or political explanation. Nutlick craves a Daddy figure.

Howard Lutnick, like many others in Trumps orbit, is a seriously emotionally damaged person. He lost his parents young and had to raise his siblings. I believe he is damaged from that loss and is desperate for anyone important to love him; so he’ll do anything. This got him success when he first went to work on a Wall Street trading floor and immediately identified who to suck up to to gain favor, and he still does this

Jesus, it must be nice to be so financially secure, you have energy leftover to be broken about your fucked up childhood.
