Thank you for all that you do.

Thank you! While our situation is dire, you offered me a ray of hope. We all need these moments to keep going. I subscribe to more substack writers than I can possibly read in a day, I do this to support independent journalism. And, between all of you, I get a well-rounded picture.

Would be great to see all the US universities/colleges unite with Harvard.

When the really, really good minds germinate from being scribes and hosts of discussion and ascend to collaborative mix, our leaders are born. We love you so much with your thoughts and ideas—-when you combine forces you become a galvanizing possibility. YOU are our leaders. Yes, we can all be leaders but YOU lead the charge. We need you desperately to continue assembling our address and putting out the recipe. Together, the group of you adepts will take us out on the road. Thank you for everything@ WE all LOVE YOU ALL!

“Letter” isn’t a strong enough word. I know it’s weird, but co-opt “Contract With America.” And DON’T use “democratic,” capitalized or otherwise. How about “Original Contract With America?!!!!”

I was thinking about how Americans are not brought up to call someone a liar, and therefore we are not yelling liar when our administration members are telling flat out lies to us. I suggest we come up with a word that we can yell that we can be comfortable saying and will set them off balance. I think that word should be baloney.

And then there's Bill Maher who went to Washington, had dinner with Trump and got played - describing Trump as engaged and even likable - said Trump made him feel comfortable and listened to, which included "an amazing tour of the whole house". It seems being charmed by Trump carries more weight with Bill than Trump's running roughshod over our civil rights and threatening our constitutional order. Bill needs a lesson in history - most brutal leaders have been described in those affectionate terms until - they're not.

Hitler really loved his Alsatian Shepherd, Blondi.

Probably more than Trump loves Pam Bondi ;)

Love the letter to America! Fantastic idea and it should include, not just condemning Trump, but also Dems vision to counter his demented actions.

What are we actually going to do to stop this guy?? Exactly right when you say conventional methods are not going to work

Congress is not going to save us. I am horrified by what is happening. This “long moment” is becoming way too long. We cannot let this creep ruin every part of our civil society. He IS a “betrayer”. 😢

Part of the reason that Trump has been so effective is that he has both houses of Congress. (He also has the Supreme Court to a large extent, but at least they’re showing some small, timid signs of resistance.) If he loses the House, he loses the ability to push through his agenda. If he loses both the House and the Senate (please, God, let it be so!), he loses the ability to push through his horrendous nominees.

And he can lose Congress through means other than an election. If enough Republicans stop doing his bidding, he will have lost Congress. He’s already pulled Elise Stefanik’s nomination out of fear of losing her seat. The number of Republicans in danger of losing their seats grows with every unpopular policy he implements.

(I used to think he would push out Thomas and Alito as soon as he gained office in order to replace them with younger versions, which would mean he would have selected more than half of the Supreme Court. Now I’m wondering if he might want to keep them there because they’re his most reliable supporters.)

To het back to the letter suggestion by Hopium. What a great time to propose a reminder of the Declaration of Independence. Just hearing a brief summary of issues that many of us have not even remembered what was written in that document was enlightening. It never hurts to be re educated to our founding principles and democratic governance. I can imagine the potential for organized study groups initiated by every Democratic Party State chair to pass on to every ward committee or counterpart to have a meeting if for no more than simple reading. Wonder if Independence Day is too soon. It has gotta be better than a military parade.
