Here’s hoping you’re right! But somehow Trump always manages to slime his way out of trouble. His Magats will believe him when he says this is all Biden’s fault…

I find myself in the utterly bizarre position of wanting what you write to come true and knowing it will bring an end - a ruinous end - to the America I grew up loving. I can only hope the ashes Trump has given us will be the birthplace of a new American phoenix.

The scariest part of the Trump phenomenon is the public’s acquiescence to a loss of democracy as long as the economy is acceptable. A more polished turd (looking at you JD) that uses a dog whistle and not a magaphone backed by the likes of Thiel is a whole different (and new) battle.

People commenting here say, "so what? They'll never change."

I say, "it's a start." And it is never bad to see the cracks forming. Cracks can lead to big glorious things. In these times, I'll take good news where ever I can find it.

Hope you're right, Rick. Rape - it happens. Fraud - they all do it. Insurrection - maybe too far. Another war - I didn't vote for that. THE PRICE GAS - I'm livid, betrayed, ready to ... what am I ready to do? Not sure these people are dealing with a full deck, so good on 'em, but watch what they do.

Great piece, as always, but my question is: would Amanda Robbins vote Democrat in the next election (or at least not vote)? I fear that she will still vote for whoever the Republicans nominate despite her anger at the orange turd. Hopefully, at least a small number of these confessed idiots will refrain from voting for the GQP.

I wish I had your confidence. But will try to trust that you have reasons to trust American voters & the Democratic Party and that our Government will do what it failed to do after January 6.

Now playing: Angine de Poitrine, Tohogd

(Tohogd is apparently an anagram for hotdog)

These two brothers of the same mother are the hottest thing on the prog Internet atm, went from playing for 30 people in Quebec to a booked solid international tour after one video of a performance blew up. They'll be in Philly in September. I'll be there with bells on ;)

This is not progrock. It's not mathcore. It's rock 'n' roll that happens to be in 7/4. Two benign space aliens come to rescue the human race from AI ;)

Oh, and it's also microtonal. 24TET, bay-bee. That's quartertones to you ;) The Ventures play microtonal math rock, basically. Nothing about this (notice how much the layered guitars sound like rock 'n' roll saxes) you couldn't imagine at a California beach party in 1961 save for the fact that no one in the Western world -- including Dave Brubeck -- could play in odd meter convincingly at that time. This is surf music for a planet with three suns ;)

This earworm could eat the rest of RFKjr's widdew bwain.

Angine de Poitrine seem like a less melodic version of Buckethead, with one more musician added. I suppose they're an acquired taste.

Oh my goodness no, Tim. That they both wear comically grotesque headwear that obscures their faces is their only similarity as performers; otherwise, these are two entirely different aesthetics. I heard from Buckethead a bunch of shredding cliches (which I did not parse as "melodic") that left me cold; Angine creates cellular, riff based music that develops in layers through the very skillful use of a loop pedal.

Now loop pedals can be a vice to be sure. We've all seen the entitled-looking busker with the digital delay rack and have been tempted to, instead of drop a dollar into his guitar case, respectfully suggest that hey, he could always sell his gear, LOL Since the loops that loop pedals create are so short, rarely longer than one bar, extensive use of a loop pedal can be mind-crushingly repetitive. The World Champeen of loop pedal abuse is probably U2's The Edge, more of a gear tech than a guitarist, anyway.

But check out Angine's performance videos. He's got a huge pedal board and plays it barefoot, using his toes to twist knobs, with as much skill and animation as he plays his double neck six-string guitar / four-string bass. He doesn't just loop one or two parts for a basic vamp accompaniment, he builds four or five layers, polyphonic and rhythmically contrapuntal, which is why progheads are so juiced by this band.

Now it's all based on pedal-point cells and not chord progressions. This may have been necessitated by the 24TET microtonal tuning (of both bass and guitar); I'm not sure if anyone has figured out a way to import our Western notion of functional harmony -- of chords that compel movement to other chords -- in microtonality.

Also, I linked that tune because it's an earworm. There are other tunes that reveal him as an imaginative and tuneful lead guitarist.

Oh, it feels good to read this... but what about the other voters he interviewed? Donald Trump is married to millions who continue to spread'em for him...

I wonder how much hate mail SHE will get 🫣

I am nothing if not stubborn.

Much has been made of this gas station interview; her words sounded great, her ire was real and the gas was expensive. But I don't know what to make of it. Why does it matter? Are they pi88ed at Trump? Yeah, I guess. But you could build a Walmart in the space between that and anything resembling a true epiphany and behavioral change

At its core, MAGA is more about hate and cruelty than Trump devotion and Repube voters can get that anywhere. He's just the messenger, the one who gives them approval to be their worst selves, and there is always DeSantis, Vance, Marco, and probably a dozen others.

Might MAGA lose some energy if the cult halo dims? Maybe. But something ugly has been unleashed in this country, not unlike Germany in the 30s, and it ain't going away.

Who has to take the kids? Nobody wants those stinky MAGA men. Gross. “The words landed with the weight of a decade’s worth of accumulated resentment.” With my own divorce, I kept all of those words to myself. “Apparently, I’m an idiot.” Yes, I am. “Idiot Has Greek Roots. The Greek adjective idios means “one’s own” or “private.” The derivative noun idiōtēs means “private person.” A Greek idiōtēs was a person who was not in the public eye, who held no public office. From this came the sense “common man.” (Merriam-Webster.com)
