I fear, what with the deployment of more and more ICE/National Guard/ fed troops to democratic cities, as vowed by his MAGA MINIONS MOB in Congress, he is trying to provoke demonstrations that will lead to violence. He can then invoke the Insurrection Act....the Posse Comitatus Act will not apply. The law on insurrection/domestic violence is broadly defined when it comes to a 'suspension of elections.' He will narrow that interpretation...count on it.

One month after Graduation from UTEP I moved to California, where I am gratefully still living. Just sold my childhood home in TX, because I never want to go back. As a person on Ancestry and seeing how long my family was there I hate looking at my Alamo business card holder, my TX shaped birdhouse, my Don’t mess with Texas shot glasses. My Dad,a WWII Vet and my Mom are buried at Ft. Bliss. Now a concentration camp. Probably 3 of 5 friends growing up had Hispanic Surnames. Horrific!
So here is the add on. After moving to California, I first went to work for Data Products, but was then recruited to INTEL. I first worked in a position similar to DP. You work with marketing forecasts, you calculate every single capacitor needed to build that product. However, I ended up as engineering representative. I helped the guys that invented everything of that era. Get their tapes loaded from the library, get help from a computer genius if they needed assistance. I still have the letters from those engineers, sent to the top. Loved those guys. When I left to be a full time Mom, there was tears, flowers and a true friendship and respect on both sides.
Anyone who still disbelieves that Trump read and absorbed all that trash in the speeches of the Fuhrer (thank you, Ivana, for letting us know) are kidding themselves. Right now Trump thinks his party will control the "Reichstag" forever and he'll be appointed Fuhrer for life (which looks like it could be sooner than he thinks, considering his health). If the Dems can take back the House in 2026 (don't eff this up, guys) then they need to hack Trump's budget to death. Make it so there's no reimbursements for any Trump personal expenses and the WH budget is zero.
But know that the Trump DoJ, the same folk who gave their blessing to Texas doing reapportionment, will fight the attempts of the Democratic states like the devil. Newsom and friends need to decide to blow the USAG off and move ahead. Give them a hard lesson in the Constitution.
As for the Texas governor wanting to be President, who in the madhouse of the GOP doesn't think they ought to be President in the Authoritarian Regime Trump intends to leave them. This does assume that Trump doesn't declare that the Presidency isn't royal and that his heir apparent, Junior, will be his successor, without election.
I don't want the house (not the House) to be burnt down. But we have to get out there and fight like our lives and freedom depends on it; and use whatever LEGAL means are available to us. Playing Marquis of Queensbury rules is why we're in the minority now. Understand that we have the strength if we are willing to use it, and if we don't, we'll be denied it forever more.

Step one: get the referendum passed in Nov. 2025. Step two: actually get things redistricted before Nov. 2026. Avoid lawsuits from left and right resulting in delays through injunctive relief. Step three: get other states to do it, too. This is fighting a fire with a box of matches. Texas Dems are already expected to be back to vote on the redistricting on Monday based on GCN’s promise to get the ball rolling. Ugh!
