The best guess, all deliciously snarky Schadenfreude aside for a second, is that Trump had some kind of health crisis last week. He did not emerge for those few minutes in golf togs with his granddaughter looking particularly fit and vigorous.

You thought Epstein would make hiding the salami hard?

At this point it is all about the canks.

He reemerged looking horrible but rumors had to be quelled. If he's complaining about pain while walking, that's pretty damn serious. For all the delicious snark of imagining a presidential Rascal scooter, I'm sure the thought of being in any way incapacitated throttles him to the core.

I’m hoping that the national sense of loathing for Vance will remain strong. Functionally, he is far more dangerous because he is smart and healthy.

"There's no intellectual framework inside Donald Trump’s head." Truer words...

This hasn't been in legacy media yet, but some lefty YouTubers have picked up that Trump hasn't been seen in public since Tuesday (they're writing about it overseas, of course). Could he be having a health crisis? Is he screaming at his doctors to give him steroids in the ankles?

Or does anyone believe that the cankle bloat has gotten less bloatier?

Trump and his minions attribute his “excellent health” to never smoking or drinking alcohol. 🤔I’m reading Mary Trump’s excellent “Too Much and Never Enough.” It reveals so much about “Uncle Donald.” I highly recommend it.

Thanks for your Friday episode - very much 'spot on' as always. I agree that JD Vance is rapidly trying to position himself in the MAGA world, and he seems as untrustworthy and sneaky as they come. We deserve far better, but I fear that the tech bros (who clearly have plenty of money, but now want power) will back him to get that power. We'll need a strong response (strategy and implementation of that strategy) to overcome the money and power grab. Not seeing it yet, but it is building - hopefully, it won't be too late. Keep up the good work, Rick.

It remains doubtful that trumpism will live on. The media barely covers the dissent out in the world around us. People are unhappy. Politicians are booed. Senators are now deciding not to run for reelection. Protests are ongoing with the No Kings March and now the Labor Day march. Extremism appears to be slowly dying. As Joni Ernst would say “we’re all going to die” so it is with the crazies following the evil leader - their numbers are dropping or the movement is dying if you will.

Thanks again Rick. This Elephant in the Room was amusing and troubling at the same time. I don’t want to see JD Vance ascend to the Presidency any more than I can stomach the current occupant of the Oval Office. Vance is a sneaky, weird propagandist and liar so I guess he fits the bill but I pray for something to end this hellish administration.

It’s a damn shame that American 8yr old and 10yr old children had more valor and strength in the face of gunfire to cover their friends and younger children with their own bodies. This a shame that their elected officials can only offer “Thoughts and Prayers”, especially to children who were praying.

Instead of “Offering thought and Prayers” how about passing legislation to prevent this from ever happening again. Their to busy paying homage to a world class, thin skinned idiot who has less power that all of them combined if they choose to use that power as well. Yet they squandered more than one opportunity to be rid of him. So here we are stuck with stupid and the loss of those beautiful Children. What has America become?

I believe in my heart.... those beautiful children will have the highest station in the paradise.

My thoughts for these legislators are the opposite of that.

My prayer is that their profit margins becomes fuel for the hellfire for such lawmakers and their derelict of duty to their voters.

I'm in my early 70s, and have health issues; and I'm in far better physical, let alone mental, condition than DJT. My grandfather, even in the final several years of life before his passing at age 96, was more mentally alert than DJT.

It is rather funny that Trump survived a severe bout of COVID-19 because he received experimental drugs, unavailable to the rest of us, that would never reach the market under the Robert Wackadoodle Kennedy health department. His diet is atrocious. He revels in having people see how badly he eats. Imagine King Trump sitting in a medieval dining hall gnawing on a leg of some unknown creature as he copiously swigs down some witch's brew and laughs as the chair legs under him give way from the weight.

But he'll never give up power, no matter how badly off he gets, physically or mentally. He probably has special staffers whose job it is to prevent anyone from 'usurping' his position or taking it after he's gone. "It's mine and you'll never get it!". Think Nero or Caligula. He's also far more mad than King George III, who was really out there. If ever there was a person who needed, and never received, parental given punishment to break bad attitudes and habits, it is DJT. Instead, they let him get away with anything he desired. That's not a formula for the creation of a well adjusted person.

"I'm not going to heaven, I hear"

Even if you ignore the words of Matthew 19:24, "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”", you can merely ask, "What part of the Laws of G-d has DJT not broken, time and again, without remorse, and with great joy and enthusiasm?" "Is that your Bible, Mr. President?" "It's a Bible". So he doesn't have a Bible, or at least know where one is. If there is a judgmental G-d, Donny's convicted and condemned. (I'm no angel or emissary of the Almighty, BTW) No DJT lawyer will get him out of that one. Fact is, they'll probably get a ride-along with Donny to the mythical underworld and find themselves deep in the Mare Ignis.

This feels a lot like Reagan's steep mental decline in his second term--complete with the cover up of his Alzheimers until 1994. We can't survive as a country for another 3+ years, much less so if his acolytes manage to STEAL a third term.

Bob McKeown's avatar

I'll never forget that gobsmacking press conference where Reagan insisted he didn't think Ollie North was selling arms to the Ayatollah to use that profit to fund the Contras, but nevertheless, he had to admit that we were trading arms for hostages to fund a war prohibited by Congress. Reagan always meant well in his dimwitted heart. He bent to reality and it was painful to witness. Trump would never do such a thing.

I wonder: Would Mr. Never Speak Ill of Another Republican accept Trump or spurn him as GHWB did with David Duke and then Trump, voting instead for Hillary--something his cowardly sons did not do.
