Great to catch up on some good news on the election results in Texas. I have high hopes. I contributed to both candidates and am very glad Talarico emerged the Democratic Senate nominee for 2026. Let the Republicans and MAGAs fight it out and spend the money Mike Johnson didn’t want to spend but now they have to and neither candidate is good for Texans or America

Representative Crockett was very gracious in her defeat to Mr. Talarico. They were speaking about who would President Trump support. I don’t know? My guess is Paxton. I'm glad that James is willing to ignore the long time prevailing winds from the left. I don't have a lot of use for what we pass off as religion, because it too often ignores the tenants of the faith (whichever one you believe in) and instead embraces non-historical fantasy as reality. Example: 'we' go to heaven and become angels. Skipping past the heaven stuff (too deep for here) angels have always been eternal beings of great and terrible powers. People don't become one.
Faith. Faith is precisely that, it is a belief in things you cannot prove by science. You embrace it out of culture, or an internal sense or need. I have nothing against those who have a true faith, but as I said before, many base their 'faiths' not on what is taught in their holy books but in what sells. I once attended a living nativity at a local Phoenix megachurch, with my wife's sister and her husband. Among other things, the head preacher talked about the three wise men from the east, then rattled off where they were from. One of them 'came' from Ethiopia. Look at any map of the Mediterranean, and Ethiopia is absolutely not to the east of Israel. Then there is the simple matter that too many 'faithful' really can't find it in themselves to lead the lives that Jesus spoke of. That is truly abominable and sad. There is no Jesus in the far right Christian Nationalist movement. Don't get me started on compassion, or the lack thereof, nor wealth as a sign of favor from G-d. Jesus certainly didn't say that, quite the opposite.
The social fabric should be of the good parts of one's faith; but America, and elsewhere, now and historically, have a history of abusing (kind description) others in the name of faith. Let us all live good lives, and treat others as we would have them treat us (not just in the Bible as the 'Golden Rule' but in other religions). We don't have to wear our personal faiths on our sleeves, nor try to proselytize others to believe as we do, unless they first show interest. A good person lives the life, and receives rewards of some nature at least in this life, and perhaps in a next.
I hope Texas is changing. Unfortunately, the people I have been closest to in the past who live there (stood with me at my wedding) aren't necessarily of the new mold. I personally don't even want to fly into and out of the state, and certainly not drive through it. Then again, I live in Arizona. smh
