I’m a “fan”: follow your podcasts; always worthwhile! Why? Why have so many lost the ability to think critically? My parents were Republicans, but able to see reason, objected to cops bashing in kid’s heads in Chicago--1968! All of their Kansas Republican friends were cheering... strangely, this turned them to voting Democratic! Listening to you & Reed Galen, I’m surprised by how much we have in common; I followed RFK in 1968, & supported the Democratic ticket ever since then. Two thumbs up, for you, all you’re doing, & pray that together, what we do will be enough!

I was asking the same question when I read that Trump actually won fifty-three percent of the white women's vote. Years ago, I came across an article by a woman who took a stab at explaining this. Her theory was that it involved an acceptance of male domination and submission to it by women, particularly among Evangelicals. Some women, apparently, find comfort and reassurance in the abuse. I wish I had saved a link to this article. It was thoughtful, if also depressing.

Watch the prime show “Sunny happy people” - these women are groomed at an early age to accept make dominance.

It makes me sick that they just brush it off. No one with a lick of sense thinks it’s a good idea to give bad people, any bad people, real power. And yet they’re willing to give the orange menace a pass.

My bet it that American women won’t. But what the hell? I’m not on twitter any more, but has anyone seen screen shots of these right wing fools putting “alpha male” in their twitter names? It’s a sign of the toxic culture on the right. This needs to be stopped and stopped now. It’s not healthy for the country and surely not healthy for the women anywhere around them.

Rick,

Thank you. I spent part of my working life advocating for abuse victims and their families. Then as now, the Donald Trumps of the world must be exposed for the insecure bullies they really are. Great job!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!

That one is one exquisite, well placed, kick in the balls. That is one exquisite public service announcement. My hat is off to the "creative department" (seek and destroy department) at the Lincoln Project. The check is in the mail. I'll become a sustaining member of you use Hadley from Kentucky I'm kidding. I'll pay online. Check in the mail sounds catchier.

read "seek and destroy" and my first thought was theme music from Jaws.

The magatz are obsessed with the criminals and rapists 'pouring in over the border.'

Yet they will vote for one.

Fabulous ad. I will be sharing widely.

In his Access Hollywood tape Donald Trump bragged of grabbing them by the E Jean Carroll.

He told on himself. All of US heard him.

The Access Hollywood tape was a $83 million “ locker room” boast.

I count among my close friends three women who have been raped; all when they were young and all of whom are now in their 60’s-70s. Not ONE of them ever came forward with an accusation or pursued a legal case against their perps. That’s just not what women did in the 1970’s; isn’t that obvious?

And I can tell you that all three of them carry life-long scars from the attacks. And, in all three cases, it’s quite clear to me the old adage, “If he did it to you, he probably did it to others, too.” One of the most important outcomes of the E. Jean Carroll verdict is, in my opinion, that it’ll help to put other very powerful/wealthy perps on notice that they, too, can be held liable. One step at a time. There’s a name for this phenomenon; it’s called The Rule of Law.

You can include me with those friends. I'm 72 and it happened to me twice. Once at 38 and once at 40. Even then in the 1980's and 1990's it was something you just moved on from and lived with.

Yes except his imbecilic voters do not care.

Maga women do not care that he was found guilty of rape, they will still vote for TFG.

Most of the military will not care even though TFG stood at a military cemetery and called those dead veterans “suckers and losers”.

He fomented an insurrection and they don’t care. He stole top secret documents and they don’t care. He mocked a disabled human being and they don’t care. He’s a vile, disgusting human being and they don’t care.

Our only hope is to vote against TFG in overwhelming numbers. Again. Because these whining, racist, sexist, cruel idiots do not care. There’s no understanding them. There’s no convincing them.

yes Lynn, it's hard to understand how, for all his offences, so many Americans (women included) defend it (just boys being boys), deny it (fake news, witch hunt), deflect away (JFK did it too), or just shrug it off.

Someone said they don't care because "it doesn't hurt me and my family."

Somehow Trump has managed to convince (is where "con" comes from?) millions of Americans to overlook his egregious behavior.

It's the question for are times: how and why do so many believe him and fall under his spell?

For over a year I've devoted a newsletter to that question, and just starting to get some understanding.

Might just see this running in Mar-a-Lardo before too long.

What does it say about the mind of a woman who will still vote for Trump?

Abraham Washington's avatar

Good question.

ps, I've just discovered (and subscribed to) your very interesting site, and look forward to reading more.

Thank you Rick. For your words. Thank you and the others involved in the Lincoln Project. Keep the ads coming. Please.

Thank you for that, Rick. I'm gobsmacked by the sight of Republicans consciously "ignoring" the two most recent cases where trump has been found guilty, the sexual assault and the business fraud. Since both are civil cases, with no jail time, I guess they feel as they did about his trump "university" scam, that he will just the pay the money and poof, clean slate. The difference with the latest however is that these were jury trials with juries approved by both prosecutors and the defense, ie they represented the people, so any notion of the "deep state" or Joe Biden or any other nonsense being involved is flat out preposterous.

I'm particularly appalled by the women who continue to support this serial abuser and raging misogynist. I'm pretty sure many were not so tolerant when it came to Harvey Weinstein, admittedly more extreme, and that is a huge mistake. Most of us on the distaff side, particularly those of us who have run into some of these characters in our own lives, have pretty sharp divining rods when it comes to men like trump and Weinstein. My reaction to both was an immediate case of emotional hives. As for the business aspect, I'm convinced that many currently living in MAGA denial would be much sharper if for instance trump was a salesman trying to convince them to buy some dubious product, which is actually the case just dialed up to 11.

Those MAGA women who don't get the news about Trump's misdeeds DON'T WANT to get the news.

For them, Ignorance is Bliss.
