One point of minor disagreement, Rick: As a hardcore liberal Democrat, I don't see Biden as center-left. I see him as on the left. It took enormous strength of character to resist the Lawrence Summers'es and keep the stimulus flowing during the pandemic, despite endless catastrophism from financial types about a recession, which we triumphantly avoided. Yeah it gave us some inflation, but it also led to a much quicker recovery than Obama's after the financial meltdown and saved untold numbers of small businesses. I see that as a genuine breakaway from neoliberal orthodoxy. And I think this happened because Biden cares more about people than profits.

That might not be "leftist" in a European sense, but it's more progressive than any president since LBJ.

As long as Fox News is legally permitted to spew disinformation, 40% of the country will remain ignorant about climate, crime, and immigration. If we don't return to some version of the Fairness Doctrine to cover broadcasters as well as networks, our divide will worsen. I don't have a problem with people holding nuanced views; I have a problem when complexities are dismissed as bothsidesism.
