Yesterday’s hearings were not oversight. They were not inquiry. They were not even bad faith in the traditional congressional sense. They were theater…cheap, lurid, pre-written, stage-managed theater, performed by a Republican Party that has decided the rule of law is optional, conditional, and disposable if it inconveniences Donald J. Trump.
From the moment Jack Smith raised his right hand, the script was already locked. The GOP members weren’t listening; they were performing. The questions weren’t questions; they were talking points.
You could practically hear the paper rustling as members leafed through the same memo, the same phrases, the same buzzwords; weaponization, deep state, persecution, like a bad high school play where everyone forgot their lines and waited for a mom with cue cards offstage, trying to stay in the scene.
It was coordinated. It was pre-written. And it was designed not to discover the truth, but to poison it, mere feedstock for the Fox Agitprop machine and for Elon’s Nazi Meme Bar.
This wasn’t an attack on Jack Smith, the man. It was an attack on the idea that the law applies to everyone; including Donald Trump.
The GOP could not have been more campy, embarrassing, and tiresome in their attempt to build a spectacle. Most of them are not smart men, and all of them beclowned themselves today in service to The Conqueror of Greenland,
