The Big Picture

Sedition and Death

We are on the verge of ugly chaos. The cause, unsurprisingly, is Donald Trump.

Let’s be clear about what set him off. Six Democrats, all with backgrounds in the military or intelligence, made a short PSA reminding service members of the oldest rule of the armed services in a constitutional republic: you don’t follow illegal orders.

It’s the law; black letter law. Moral law.

You follow the Constitution. They did not call for mutiny. They did not ask for a coup. They didn’t tell troops to pick a party. They said, in essence, “Your oath is to the country, not to a man.” That is civics. That is literally the job.

Trump’s response was not an argument. It was the howl of a bitchy autocrat who thinks the government is his property.

Donald Trump on Thursday did what autocrats do when the mob gets restless, the propaganda stops working, and the lights start flickering in their palace: he is pointing at elected members of Congress and screaming “traitor,” and then hinting, nudging, reposting, and cheerleading the idea they should be executed.

Not metaphorically. Not “politically.” Literally.

He labeled their speech “seditious behavior, punishable by death,” and amplified his Twitter goon supporters’ calls to “hang them.” For telling American troops to follow the law, Trump set off a Hate Machine cascade that, as intended, has death threats coming in fast and ugly. (Which, incidentally, is how Melania describes the three times they’ve had sex.)

He demanded arrests, trials for “sedition,” and poured on the rah rah for the death penalty like he drowns a burnt steak in ketchup. His defenders (including Grindr Mike and many of the Pocket Constituion bros) aren’t even trying to play the usual game of “Oh, he didn’t really mean it; he was 'talking tough'; the Democrats and the press are hysterical snowflakes.”

Nope.

They’re in on the play, calling for arrests, show trials, executions. We’re in that phase of the collapse of the Republic where Trump demands to be taken seriously, and literally, no matter how absurd and violent. All the MAGA scamfluencers calling for people to be fired, cancelled, and shunned for the crime of “Failing to Display The Official Emotions of Grief over Charlie Kirk” are baying for violence and blood.

We’re done with their Kirk-worshipping martyr act now, at least. Their true, violent colors are on display.

Trump spent a decade cooking his followers in a sous vide of conspiracy, violent
