Thank you Rick...the memories are still extremely clear in my head...and yesterday Our Local Democrats, here in Medford, Oregon, held a small group of our wonderful ...people who STAND on Barnett Road and Highland Avenue, Medford, Oregon, EVERY TUESDAY between 9AM and about 11AM..These cheerful, caring people Held a SIGN that stretched at least thirty feet around the corner and spelled out "JANUARY 6th WAS TREASON"...Each letter sign was thirty inches by twenty inches. So we all stood and held each part of this sign.. The only reason I want to tell about this is maybe give ideas to others of you out there that need projects, to let all people know we are there to uphold this Democracy.. This won't stop the idiots...but maybe some will start to see that if they do care they will find ways to participate. I don't know but I hope.
There were many HONKERS and more that ignored us and a few that yelled that we were ( unspeakable words) and two people pushed physically through us even though we left spaces.
SO That Terrible day of TREASON and TRAITORS is still not comprehended by too many of our people...and they do NOT understand the significance.
Too many are feeling that we are not doing enough...and certainly when we have a DESPOT for a 'leader' that attacks OTHER NATIONS with NO MILITARY TO STOP HIM...we are doomed... Think of Hitler advancing into Poland with his storm troopers and all the surrounding countries in the 1940s...and how long it took to stop Germany. THIS is what we have facing us now!!! WE are GERMANY 1940!!! I do not know how many Germans tried to stop Hitler...but we know there were many executions. Is this what's going to happen?
trump/felon sounding pompously like a self-righteous Emperor...pushing OUR MILITARY into other countries??? THIS IS INSANE!! He's no better...maybe worse than Maduro.
Thank you to ALL of you who are working against this regime...keep trying We do NOT GIVE UP THE SHIP!!! Again, THANK YOU RICK for allowing me to spew...
There have been several occasions where the orange putrescence could have been removed, but the Republicans refused to come together with Democrats to do that. They thought they held onto power. They don’t have any power; the orange putrescence keeps snatching it away.
Jan 6 was a horrifying day. I spent the whole day in shock. The lack of response is horrifying. The pardons are beyond unforgivable. This cannot stand. Garland's lack of action is unconscionable. The Dems failed to bring justice. The Jan 6 committee was the only action taken that counts and it was whiffed by DOJ. Can we recover from this?
I was so wishing today that some news outlet (granted, that would be a VERY brave news outlet) would just rerun the footage of that day. No commentary. Just the events as they happened, as we all watched live that day. Just rerun it was though it was happening, live.
In fact, the overthrow of the government never stopped since that day.
So spot on, Rick. Thank you. If I may, here's my take on this anniversary and how it still fills me with rage … and halting hope than we can finally, mercifully, get past this dark time.
I so agree. He got away with it. And so did his co-conspirators. I just saw a comment from a legal analyst that the cases about Trump were dismissed without prejudice. That means he can be charged again. We need to make that happen. I don’t care how long it takes, we need to make them pay for what they did.
I will never forget. We watched the speeches and the riots. It's burned into my brain and I still get upset when I think of it. The fact that they try so hard to say it was nothing makes me infuriated all over again. Thanks for the "spot on" article.
Thanks for ringing the bell again, Rick. While there are millions of people who bear so much blame for the destruction of our republic, the Holy Trinity in my view are the two you highlighted, McConnell and Garland and then John Roberts. The slow walking of the execrable immunity decision while using the “rocket docket” for the 14th Amendment challenge shows the Supreme Court’s moral and legal bankruptcy.
These are the most tragic and dangerous and truly insane days of my long life, and in fact, I believe this is the most horrific and disastrous time since the Civil War. I truly believe that, and two thirds of the country either does not care or is in the cult…..
I do not see a way out with the mass delusion about January 6 and all the rest……
Too many that have NO CLUE...and do NOT want a clue!!! They still think it will just blow away...I totally agree with you!!! So many of us are just flabbergasted at the CHOSEN IGNORANCE of the people in our nation..both parties, unfortunately..
No disagreement on any of this, besides pinning too much shit on Merrick Garland. I'm not a fan of his but please read Marcy Wheeler for a legitimate timeline, necessary hurdles to be overcome, and other impediments to prosecution. Was MG Johnny of the spot? No. But he did have significant legal canyons to traverse, and the J6 committe also fucked him over bigtime. Politics over Prosecution wasted a long stretch.
One more point- John Roberts and the Supremes are absent from this, and should be riight there with Mitch as enablers of DT and deniers of justice.
Good comments from all, thanx..My 2¢...The repubs didn't have to nominate him - twice...and... and had 2 bites at the 'impeachment apple'... so, yeah I'm thinking the repubs have embraced cowardice and have allowed a lot of their true feelings show.
The 43 Republican Senators who voted not guilty on the impeachment of Trump for his terrorist attack are the worst of all. They supported Trump's insurrection, and now his intent to end our democracy. Trump wouldn't be President now, if just 10 more GOP Senators had voted him guilty.
Funny, I was just listening to some commentary about the anniversary of Jan. 6th and ranting against Merrick Garland on my way back from getting lunch.
But - as much as I agree that his appointment turned out to be a disappointment - I could not disagree more with "McConnell is not at the pinnacle of men to blame."
McConnell was paving the way to Trump when Trump was still hosting The Apprentice. He is as devoid of principle as he is of courage. (He's also the reason Merrick Garland wasn't on the Supreme Court, but I won't go down that rabbit hole.)
I believe Merrick Garland's and Joe Biden's big mistake was underestimating the venality of voters. McConnell didn't underestimate it - he exploited it. May he rot in hell.
Yeah, Barbara, I agree. I see Garland as more a failure of nerve than a failure of principle. But let's unpack McConnell's special brand of perniciousness. I do not think McTurtle is devoid of principle; contrarily, I think he's a stone-cold ideologue of the Grover Norquist, shrink government down to the point where we can drown it in the bathroom persuasion.
Harry Reid was another Machiavellian operator and he nuked the filibuster for federal bench appointments which has been a mixed blessing ever since. And let's not forget that Generalissima Pelosi also knew how to twist arms to get things done. She, too, kept a list of who was naughty and who was nice in her caucus and rewarded accordingly.
In leadership, you need both a carrot and a stick. At the end of the day, I think the turtle was just exhausted by Trump (and probably at least as importantly by the kind of fanatic MAGAloids who must be his KY constituents) and wanted him (them) to go away, in his acquittal speech infamously pawning off his responsibility (hint, hint, Merrick) to the Justice Department. It gets harder to stand down death threats when you're as old as Mitch.

I was just told that trump is GOING AFTER GREENLAND!!! OH SHIT!!!
There have been several occasions where the orange putrescence could have been removed, but the Republicans refused to come together with Democrats to do that. They thought they held onto power. They don’t have any power; the orange putrescence keeps snatching it away.
Truth.
True. Well done. Thank you.

“And no one embodies that cowardice more perfectly than Mitch McConnell.” Hence my handle.

I looked too...Worse than the TOWERS coming down!!! And yet...ignorance??? DAMN!!!

POOR USA...you are correct!!

HEAR HEAR!!!
And by all appearances, that blessed rotting may commence quite soon.
"May he rot in hell", indeed, Barbara.
