If the mob had killed Pence (or anyone) I still don’t think they would have had the votes to impeach, am I too pessimistic?

The milk of human kindness runs through my veins very thinly when it comes to any of TFG's enablers. Honestly, if Mike Pence had gotten killed by the mob on 1/6 I would have written it off as another victim of the Karma Bus. Or, as they say in your neck of the woods, he FAFO'd.

Mike Pence's term as Indiana governor was coming to an end, and his reelection was looking iffy. He had 4 years on political life support as VP. He was so obsequious snd mealy mouthed as VP. He did not recognize that he had no path to any political office after his time as VP was over.

Rick, When future historians write histories of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Succession, I hope they will include the important detail you describe here. Thank you!

What a roller coaster ride you have been on, Rick. I felt for you when your voice cracked during the November 4th TLP video address to us. It revealed the strain you were under, as well as your resolve to persevere. And now we understand that your devotion to democracy is fierce, but pales in comparison to your love for your children, who have been terrorized by MAGA. It breaks my heart to learn what your entire family has gone through.

The assault on the integrity of The Lincoln Project is a testament to your relentless pursuits to clawback our democracy from the nefarious forces put into play by Trump and company.

Pence has played so many different roles during his time in the Trump administration. I am of the mind that Manfort/the Russians deliberately inserted him into the VP slot as impeachment insurance now that I have read the reporting done on Speaker Johnson and the insidious danger his perverse brand of Christianity poses to our republic.

Zug Zwang is the term that describes the circumstances we find ourselves in: no good options.

Godspeed, Rick Wilson and the entire Lincoln Project team! We WILL find a way to prevail in spite of the bad options.

Now we’re hearing today that Pence’s first instinct was to NOT certify the election. He’s no profile in courage. I’m glad he wasn’t hurt that day, but maybe it was a good thing that he saw how dispensable he was to the orange menace.

Like that you sometimes hit up msnbc. I don't have cable so can't watch which sometimes is a blessing. It keeps me more centered. Kick ass rick.

“Even now, he doesn’t understand it wasn’t our ad that put his life in danger (or, in his more ludicrous assertion that…wait for it…the Lincoln Project caused January 6th) but Trump’s movement and mob.”

First off, Mike Pence is a man of little conviction and faith; his political career was essentially over when he agreed to be Trump’s VP, with all the misogyny and scandals that occurred even before he made the decision. So much for adhering to the gospels of Jesus!

Secondly, I would have to wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment regarding putting that buffoon’s life in danger. You actually saved Pence. Being in Congress with hundreds of additional police when the mango mob stormed the Capitol, gave Pence more protection that day than had a mob sought him out after the certification process ended.

He should be thanking you...:)

USA hasn't had a presidential assassination since 1964.

Thanks Rick!

In fact, it was trump and his cult of violent Neanderthals who threatened Mike Pence, not your most excellent ad that was meant to and apparently did wake up his inner patriot. Considering the people who surrounded him and the threats he knew he would face, it took courage for the normally obsequious VP Pence to stand up for ethics, his appropriate role and history by refusing to go along with trump's diabolical yet harebrained scheme. He has since been punished by the party that left its mind back in 2015, if not the Dark Ages, but unlike the quislings who supported the Big Lie, he will not go down in history as the Benedict Arnold those who live on planet MAGA make him out to be.

The brilliant Rachel Maddow in her books and podcasts has illuminated some of the times in the past when a large swathe of the population has gone mad, pro-authoritarian and infused with hate as it appears we are now in the midst. It would perhaps comfort Pence to study the fates of those who then stood up for democracy and the rule of law and those who ended up in history's toxic waste dump, a location he narrowly escaped along with his physical well being.

I remember what a lifeline you and Tara felt like to me, and no doubt many others, on the awful day of January 6. I can't imagine what it would have been like getting through that day, and the surrounding dangerous months, without the steadfast online "grab bar" of the Lincoln Project to turn to. Thank you so much for your vlog/podcast on that day. We needed you, and you were there.
