This segment with Chris Whipple left me feeling kind of odd in that it came off to me like this was sort of business as usual when we all know that Susie Wiles made quite a few incriminating comments about Trump… many actually. I have to say it almost feels like she and President Trump colluded on this and decided that she should do this piece because it might distract everybody from the Epstein files. Under normal circumstances anybody else would be fired for the interview that she gave. Trump doesn’t put up with this type of disloyalty on any level. This is not making sense to me.
Thanks Rick. I’m fascinated by the photography as well - weird to me (as a photographer who often shoots portraits, that several of them were done against walls with light switches, etc. Also fascinating that in general, they weren’t flattering in the least. But then again, these are all deeply evil people with no moral compass whatsoever, so there ya go. In my experience, evil people don’t photograph well - that evil seems to leak out of the eyes. No amount of skill can disguise it.
A word on Rubio - he said this week that he’s proud of the changes to US foreign aid. That’s a statement that damns him in my eyes for all of eternity. His ambition has always outpaced his intellect - if he thinks the public will forget that he stood by while Musk dismantled USAID causing the deaths of 100’s of thousands of people, many of them children, I have a bridge to sell him.
Last thing, WTF is all this talk about letters of marque and the US’ foray into outright piracy? (Not a topic for the Vanity Fair article, but damn, this is lunacy.)

Avant garde instrumental death metal fer yiz. Surprisingly delicate and open (for death metal, LOL). Entirely through-composed, like Schoenberg 'n' shizzles ;)
Great stuff, Rick and Chris. This whole saga fascinates me and it will fascinate even more as Susie slowly but surely further descends to drool cup duty. Susie survives because she's a True Believer with no ideological agenda of her own, just snarky commentary on bad execution from some of the principles. Erin Brockovich this woman is not, LOL. Nor Miles Taylor. Nor even John Kelly.
Susie's not rooting for MAGA over America First (which is the difference between blood-and-soil nationalism and ethnonationalism). She doesn't seem to be _rooting_ for Miller to succeed, necessarily, but she'll roll with it because he's a real smart guy. She kinda knows that the tariffs won't work but hey, the Big Guy wants it so y'all have to get on board. She's gonna support JD in '28. She's very close to Marco and thinks he's genuinely doing the principled thing right now.
Sure, Jan.
There's getting high on your own supply. Then there's Kool-Aid poisoning.
And it's the Kool-Aid poisoning that renders her damaged goods in the eyes of history, a history she specifically called on Chris Whipple to contextualize her in. She fully admits that her main qualification to wrangle these kooks (she put it more tactfully, LOL) was growing up with her raging alcoholic dad, Pat Summerall. So she's modeling dysfunctional family dynamics in the WH.
From history, like Rodney Dangerfield, this woman gonna get no respect :(
Trump is absolutely _smitten_ by this. Susie knows how to deal with (enable, placate, soothe, reassure) men with big, self-destructive personalities. Being too stupid to realize that Susie said Trump's personality _right now_ is of a raging alcoholic and thinking her point was it's a good thing he doesn't drink, Trump fully owns up to those personality traits like it's a compliment.
And oh my goodness were her buttoned-up buttons pushed when Whipple asked about potentially enabling Trump's lesser inclinations. "I'm not an enabler! And I'm not a bitch!"
Which is exactly what an enabling bitch in denial would say ;)
POTUS Has a bankrupted soul! Retribution is his game. He went bankrupt in the 1980’s . He didn’t like the blue bloodsuckers. That is what he called the rich. Thank you for the article Mr. Wilson or No name grandpa.
This was an astonishing conversation and left me thinking this lady is running the country as the dementia companion of the president - she is clearly an occupational pillar more even than the usual chief of staff, while the people she called into the room with her handle the rest of things. This is the new version of Nancy Reagan and James Baker- is her and that troupe. The biggest thing that keeps striking me in the comparison of their portrait to the Vulcans is that W is in his picture! Here is the new version and she is in the center while Trump is off somewhere colouring on his ballroom drawings. And your interview here clarifies that she is the voice of Oz, she speaks for the Wizard.

Yep. Nancy and JB III during Reagan II. Bingo.
Somebody call the astrologer ;)
Susie Wiles is the Ghislaine Maxwell of Reince Priebus'es.
Can’t and won’t argue with that
