Iowa appears to be emitting genuine rays of hope, gawd help us for allowing any feeling of hope to eek out in these dark end-times of the Trump Cult's Death Star.

Yeah ... why I never was a Kamala fan in '20. What people gag at with Democrats is not "wokeness" -- only Donald Trump is truly against being awake -- it's corporate wokeness. It's a sheen of self-righteous identitarianism over standard-issue neoliberal policies. Progressive neoliberal policies are always pitched around "merit" and appeal strongest to the strivers -- often highly educated up-and-coming recent immigrants.
The white permanent underclass _despises_ these policies and feels victimized by them. It rubs it in their faces that they're not meritorious themselves -- the direct inverse of Bill Clinton's admonition to "work smarter, not harder." An insult to every non-smart person.
I live in the capitol city of another West Coast state and it's a similar situation to L.A.'s with our mayor.
They run heavily on alleviating homelessness, then a year and a half later, nothing, nothing, nothing has changed. Nothing. It's not noticeably worse, but it's clearly not noticeably better, either.
