Oh, dear. I’m dizzy. The regime is unable to exhibit adult behavior. The people in charge are unable and unwilling to act like adults. Great. Just great. These childish man-babies are in control of the United States government. I’ve been behaving (more or less) like an adult since I was five, but these guys get to start a mutherfucking war and act like children? They are allowed to kill and maim humans and destroy this planet? When I say mutherfucking, I mean they are literally fucking their own mothers by destroying life. 🏵️ ** Let’s talk about the people in charge: Are they still people? What is a this thing called a person, a human, a man? The regime’s people in charge are monsters. Committing crimes against humanity gets your human card revoked -- by me, if I’m the only one who will metaphorically do it. I worked at the DMV. I know how these things work. (🤭) There’s a process to revoke a license. It requires the court to get involved. I pray the international community and courts will hold these criminals to account. Lord knows the U.S. has no moral standing left in the world. That makes my heart hurt. 🏵️ The subject in church on Sunday was original sin. Yikes. As far as I’m concerned there is and never was such a ridiculous thing. The previous day I had volunteered at a local event where I met a tiny red-headed baby named Naomi. What a Joy. All smiles. If anyone wants to argue with me that babies arrive already encumbered with sin, don’t. I will show you my own sin with my arthritic fist to your face. (The older I get the more I want to punch a bad guy. The worst act of violence I have committed was at the age of 14, I sat on my 12-year old sister and held her down while I plucked her unibrow. She thanked me later.) 🏵️ I have Emily Litella hearing. Did you say Metternich? That guy was new to me.

I’d be OK if just one journalist would call them out on the idea that they’re “investigating” that Tomahawk strike.

There is no investigation.

None

They know, we know and they know we know and we know they know we know …

That no investigation is taking place

God our media blows

Thank you Rick. At least you tell us what we can expect from this fxxxing war. Lindsey Graham, Kegsbreth, taRUMP and all his merry men can fuck right off. None of them are worth a shit and they disrespect the constitution and the sacrifice of our military forces engaged in a hopeless battle. I have to laugh at the thought that he’s now bullying allies to help when he’s helped Putin, and hurt everyone in the process. How will it all end?

This Administration has no honor. Never had never will. They f*cked around and now we all are finding out. Thank you, Rick, for your wisdom, knowledge and savvy about the current state of the world. You always make us smarter.

Rick: YOU know and American history peeps know who else popped off into a war they hadn't planned for.

The Confederates!

The higher-ups were warned not to attack militarily. Public opinion in the other states (it wasn't just "the North") was very much divided about the need to go to war against slavery.

So the wannabe aristocrat-idiots attacked Ft. Sumter, and immediately Public Opinion in "the Union" solidified against the Confederacy. What followed was a fantastically destructive war, from which the South never really recovered,

So they have launched another arrogant, impulsive, fact-free war, that will drag us all down this time.

Flippin' AWESOME analogy, Charlie. Indeed.

Aw, shucks 😁 Bob, thanks.

Trump is desperate to get this war over. Netanyahu is desperate for it to continue. My question is what happens when Trump decides it's time to declare victory but Bibi won't go along? Do we leave Israel hanging out to dry, or do we get roped into a ground war with Iran that will go on for twenty years? There are simply no good options open to this asinine administration. Meanwhile, North Korea is making threatening moves against South Korea, China is doing the same with Taiwan, and Russia is still bombing Ukraine. Whodda thunk it, eh?

The scariest thing I heard recently was when Frank Figliuzzi said, "Our enemies can count. They know exactly how many top tier weapons we're burning through in Iran."

It may well happen that Epstein will be a welcome distraction from the conflagration that is lighting up the Middle East

RELEASE MORE EPSTEIN FILES TO DISTRACT FROM THE IRAN WAR.

Wag the whole damn kennel.

Thanks Rick: When it all calms down and you get a new administration they should set up a tribunal using U.S. law: The 1996 War Crimes Act and the Department of Defense Law of War Manual prohibit giving or threatening “no quarter,” set up trial for all the folks involved in this crime , convict them then have a public execution. Just following orders didn't work for the Nazis and it should not be used here. I understand they have bombed another school .

Yes. We cannot and must not try to let bygones be bygones after this catastrophic president. No more Joe Biden nice. We have to burn this rot out.

If Donnie popped a stroke… opportunity for board reset. Nobody loses.

Likely, the remaining clowns would just move the circus around the block though.

My fond imagining is that Stupid Hitler rolls like a bowling ball all the way down the AF1 stairs. Bang thump clunk clonk splat. All things considered, he doesn't hurt himself too badly; he just does what happens to hundreds of increasingly frail seniors every day when they take a bad fall -- he breaks his hip.

This isn't life threatening. Joanna Coles at the Daily Beast podcast just had hip replacement surgery two weeks ago and she's out and about. But Joanna Coles, while an older lady, is also lithe and in shape. Trump would be out of commission considerably longer. Could he still president? It'd be physically possible; he could bruit through the pain like FDR and JFK. But there isn't a single soul who could honestly imagine this.

Trump being photographed in a wheelchair would be like ego death for him. I honestly think at that point he'd resign willingly rather than see his self-image tarnished like that.

Imagine insulting all our allies, cozying up to our enemies, starting a war that nobody wanted [except Bibi and AIPAC]. Trump purged the General Staff and Intel that's causing Stalin and Lenin to jizz themselves in the afterlife. And then Trump War HQ is a bed-sheet pillow fort [h/t Tom Nichols] where all and sundry waltz in and out with Apple Watches and unsecured phones. All relevant intel services are hoovering all of it up. Yeah.

Bob McKeown's avatar

Nichols and Miller were bangin' yesterday ;)

Another rich source of wan amusement The Bulwark provides us is when JVL goes off on one of his periodic Make-A-Wish Director rants against Keystone Kash.

larry gassan's avatar

Tom Nichols is totally legit. As I'm even older than him, when he drops Before Times cultural refs its magic. Props to Will Sommers for peering into the MAGA Proctoscope and his reporting on Jake Lang et alia.

Bob McKeown's avatar

Yeah, Tom is a beast. He's as witty as Rick with that same twinge of an absurdist sense of humor, but he's a scouche less dark. He reminds me of a righteously disgruntled Disney troll, you know, with the incantations and the magic hat ;)

I'm Gen Jones, so Tom's cultural references ring cherries for me, too. And the man is so damn smart, the proverbial walking encyclopedia. How many times did he win at Jeopardy? I think I heard five, which is just ... what were they thinking ;)

That whole gen x / millennial Bulwark crew are the best, my third go-to after Rick and Keith Olbermann.

Trump has given the USA; both nation and citizenry a century of impending misery for little more than a year spent betraying every norm and right in its Constitution, BETRAYING a stalwart ally (Ukraine) to Russia with the attendant tens of thousands dead, maimed and lost (kidnapped children) weakening, bullying, threatening NATO members with abandonment in the face of Russian invasion and threatening to invade and take Greenland, keeping Canada under a sustained over year long NATO Article 4 Attack to break our sovreignty economically and annex us. The chef’s kiss to all this ignorance, hubris and bullying is it (USA) being blindly led by Israel into blood feud and fatwas with Iran. Now, the USA demands all these nations it’s been “cherishing” this past year put their navies under USA CONTROL to open Hormuz. Iran has said it has no issue with non-belligerent traffic.

The loud and clear message to USA: Foxtrot Oscar. Having these three vipers in a pit striking and degrading each others’ ability to menace the world is a win all round; except for energy price disruptions. Keep on grinding, USA, Israel & Iran.

That about sums it all up. 👍🏻

Trump will blow up the entire world before he allows the surrender of the Epstein files....or come pretty damned close...unless our government and guardrail institutions suddenly remember the true nature of thsmeir oaths and decide to function. What's frying my ass are the individuals who claim to have them all, with all of the names and facts...and yet never release them. I'm getting skeptical of them as well.

Now playing: Clannad, Ar a Ghabhail 'n a 'Chuain Damh

My weepy Irish soul can't express how much I love this song. It's also deceptively mathy; I defy anyone to keep the downbeat straight in their head. I suspect the tune is traditional (I know the lyrics are), but in any case, the folklorists who collected these tunes and verses called it sprung rhythm, interpolations in an established pulse based on the rhythms of natural speech.

I'm such a geek about this stuff, thanks for bearing with me. The tune is quite the banger ;)

The fusion-y groove with the Wurlitzer piano, flute and guitars in the second half is not Irish traditional music. It's Clannad goin' for some Pentangle juice ;) (I love Pentangle.)
