This is basically what Sinclair Lewis would look like were our current technology available when he wrote "It Can't Happen Here" in 1935, with the sole caveat being that the people who produce and consume this are the very sociopaths he was lampooning, and they see it all as true.

Other than being set in 2025, I swear it could pass for a "sincere" fascist vid. Definitely most of Trump's supporters would believe it was.

Hi Rick - new subscriber but longtime fan - in case you didn't see this, terrific bit from David Sedaris last month: "I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.”

... or to ask for a 3rd option?

That's the biggest danger - to Jill Stein, Cornell West, RFK Jr, etc. (and their supporters) I've got two words: Ralph Nader.

In 2000, Nader's 97,000 votes in Florida put George Bush (who won FL by 500 votes) into the White House.

I loved the reference to John Wilkes Boothe as a "progressive", progressively pro slavery and secession. trump to the rescue!

Those of us who have had to endure the attention getting, moronic, thieving and vulgar antics of trump the Impaler for decades knew he was a buffoon, a fraud and a world class liar. What we didn't realize is how many of our fellow citizens, men and women who would likely be able to spot a phony if he or she tried to sell them a car or undermine their efforts at work, would fall for his mastery of his only skill set, Con Artistry. It's incredibly depressing. But, hey, ban more books and create more stupid, GOP. It serves you well, not so much the country's survival, but you compromised Manson girl personalities.

It's sad, disappointing, frightening how many can't see him as the Conman of the Century.

I've known this guy was a clown since the late 70s when he was trying to be the real estate mogul of New York.

I NEVER thought in a million years he would become the FULLOFSHITEMESSIAH of the MAGA cult.

I despair for our country.

I weep for humanity.

yes, but as Obama would say, Don't Boo, Vote!

That's the message the Blue Team needs - get the hell out there and vote.

Only a huge Blue Wave will drown Trumpism.

Same. But I was a little late to the unveiling. In the early 80's, he somehow got his hands on a USFL football team. He then proceeded to steal our quarterback, one Brian Sipe of the Cleveland Browns. I couldn't believe it, and started looking into this blowhard elbowing his way in front of the cameras. Started finding small contractors who were put under because he wouldn't pay them. More than one. Still can't believe one of them didn't take him out. Then he single-handedly bankrupted the USFL. How on earth did he keep himself alive? I'll never figure that one out. And how does it continue? I mean, this is the USA, home of the AR-15.

I recall back in 2015 watching this creepy guy with some sort of RealDoll descend an escalator. I kinda knew who donny was, but I started searching for background data. It wasn’t long before I concluded that this guy was a narcissistic sociopath who was a racist, anti-democratic criminal. He had also been successful at weaseling out of being held accountable for pretty much all of his malfeasance. I sounded the alarm on Facebook. If he was elected, things would go bad. Very bad. I told both my progressive and conservative friends they would rue the day they did not do everything they could to keep him out of power. No one listened. It was all “Hillary isn’t likeable”. Or “Dems and Repubs are all the same”. I was called “unAmerican” by donny supporting non-friends and received death threats.

Like Rick, I can now say “I told you so”. But it’s a pyrrhic victory given what we’re facing. Rick is 100% right. Everybody can do something. It doesn’t have to be expensive or a major time suck. An ocean is made up of billions of drops of water. Be a drop.

My biggest fear is that Joe Biden will legitimately win, but Trump’s loyalists won’t certify the elections or will do some other sh*t enabling Trump to steal the election.

They are busy manufacturing claims of voter fraud right now.

They couldn't produce any evidence in 2020- they will have evidence manufactured for 2024.

and if they can tie up the courts with it, they can create chaos.

and out of chaos a creature like Trump can emerge.

If that’s the case then Biden stays president through it all and when the dust settles the courts will rule in his favor

That’s what I was thinking, with a little, “Possession is 9/10ths of the Law” too. Biden will stay put, but we’ve got to win by at least 7 Million Votes again. I’m hopeful Women will Vote for Choice, which can only be a Democratic vote all down ticket too.

that's exactly the cure, Nora, a huge Blue Wave right down the ticket.

With a Dem majority across the board (and State-wide) then Biden has the legal force (and hopefully the gonads) to quash the inevitable MAGA insurrection.

The only cure for the poisonous treasonous Trump Disease is a Bluenami.

Vote in numbers to big to question. An overwhelming loss will be hard to counter and will induce millions to protest if it is questioned. They've done it in Poland and elsewhere - we can do it too.

That's where Johnson could become a problem. He could drag his feet on swearing in enough Democrats to change control of the House (based on trumped up claims of voting irregularities).

It's neither illegal nor unconstitutional to do that. Just immoral and unethical.

I'm not sure that I would have released this powerful video out there on YouTube without a disclaimer. Yes, it comes from the Lincoln Project which should be disclaimer enough, but not everyone is as aware as they should be. I'm imagining some people agreeing with the sentiments expressed not as a warning, but as a victory. I'm old enough to remember people laughing WITH Archie Bunker of "All in the Family" fame, as he expressed the very worst of America, rather than AT him for his ridiculous hot takes on the state of the country. America has become too insane for everyone to see this as it should be seen.
