From Donald Trump‘s perspective, the Democrats are a foreign opponent. In fact they are his primary adversary. He is not the leader of the United States. He is the leader of Trump’s kingdom. And the greatest hatred is always towards the defectors. I am sure he hates Liz Cheney a lot more than Kamala Harris. Russia is on his side. Ukraine is on their side. His world view is extraordinarily limited. Kings with real power to rule did not survive the modern era. Neither will authoritarians. The question is how many of us ordinary people will not survive this era before we manage to depose them?
I think Donald Trump actually does us a favor because everything is out there, clear as day. You have to really work hard to not see any of it. You cannot pretend to actually care about human rights and democracy and continue to support him. At least it will become too hard. Even the Fox News and social media bubble is not impermeable. It’s the guys that sound reasonable and don’t get yelled at that are actually the real problem in my opinion. The Republicans, who are from purple states and who sympathize with people losing their jobs, but pretend that it’s actually about saving money and balancing the budget, when they know better. It may be Elon Musks idea. But I know it’s not Trump’s goal. He has no actual values other than winning— he himself winning. And being admired for it.
