Clarify: Who Are the “Enemies Within”?

Mr. Trump,

I was deeply saddened by the assassination of Charlie Kirk and by how it has been used rhetorically in the days since. At his memorial, you said:

“I hate my opponents, and I don’t want the best for them.”

Meanwhile, Charlie’s widow, Erika Kirk, said she forgives her husband’s killer. That contrast has stayed with me.

A week later, you said we must “go after the enemies that are within.” But you never explained who those enemies are.

Are your enemies:

• Your family, your children, or the people who style your hair or choose that skin color and all those interesting shades?

• Democrats? Trans people?

• Everyone who disagrees with you?

• Or the people who paint your face every shade of orange and wood grain?

If you are going to speak of “enemies” and “internal threats,” you owe the public clarity. Ambiguous language like this raises fear, division, and suspicion.

You have already used the courts and government to attack. You have even tested out the military.

I ask you plainly: Who are these “enemies within”?

If you want to claim a moral or political high ground, name them. Don’t leave us guessing.

Sincerely,

Louis Caldwell

#Trump

I’m praying for you Rick and our country. I’m going to keep supporting Democrats to get elected in my red state. My take away from Timothy Snyder’s book, On Tyranny: do not obey in advance.

I have tried and tried to convince loved ones of the dangers of another Trump at this point Kingship (he doesn't deserve the title President anywhere near him.) I have failed. It both infuriates me and breaks my heart. With all of the video of him in the last week can't wake them up I'm not sure what will. But I'm going to be reading this to them, emailing, restocking, reposting and even reading this outlook to them in the hopes that you're in the face approach slaps them in the face where I have failed. Lord help us all. Rick I thank you for your continuing fight for our country, our democracy and it's people. I know you and your loved ones have been put in harms way more than a few times and it will never be forgotten. Let's keep our foot on the gas. It's still October!

And yet his supporters waive away repeated serious threats like many upscale voters in Bucks County. Obviously a lot of our fellow citizens just don't mind.

Thank you for your courage. I know you and those around you have paid a price for it already. I pray for your safety. (And no, I am not one of *those* Christians. I loved your interview with Jim Wallis. The small Presbyterian congregation to which I belong calls itself a Matthew 25 church.)

I just read Psalm 91. It came up randomly as the scripture in the devotional booklet I pick up at my church. And I invoked its promises of protection over you and over those around you.

You are doing God’s work, Rick. Maybe not always the language God would use. 😆 But one effect Trump has had on me in the past eight years—in addition to intensifying my prayer life—has been to make my own language a bit saltier.

Did anyone else watch Trump's Univision Town Hall? I hardly ever can stomach watching Trump for even 30 seconds. But I did watch some clips from it.

It was a complete train wreck. I saw about 4 of his answers. None of them even began to make any sense whatsoever.

If the Trumplican Candidate is fomenting violence and insurrection in public, what would be the political problem for Joe Biden if he arrested and detained the chief insurrectionist? Would it taint a Democratic victory?

Biden would have no legal problems thanks to the Supreme Court. But Dark Brandon might just save our democracy with this admittedly unprecedented action.

If Biden did it now, it would set off a wave of violence from Trump's trigger-happy and armed-to-the-teeth cult.

Let Harris win in a Blue Wave landslide, and it takes the wind out of Trump's "rigged" and "stolen" BS.

And Biden's in charge till Jan.2025 so there won't be any repeat of Jan.6, and if they try, well, Dark Brandon just might drop the hammer on them. Trump's cult is a minority in America, and with all those high-profile Republicans openly endorsing Kamala, Trump won't have the same leverage he had in 2020 when he was still in the WH.

Sorry, working early voting and writing post cards (400 mailed this AM) so did not have an opportunity to reflect and respond to your analysis. As an inside-the-beltway denizen, and again, someone who was on Capitol Hill Jan 6, I have reflected on the potentials of a 2nd Trump term. I take him at his word, but more importantly, I take his sycophants at his word. He has attracted a cadre of the worst types imaginable and have given them voice--and power. If he is elected, he is gone by Jan 31 2025 in a full blown exercise of the 25th Amendment. Trump may exit the stage, but they will be with us if he secures a second term. Then our entire government fails and we will see Project 2025 enacted. After all it says Next Republican Administration--it never mentions Trump by name.

If Harris/Walz are able to secure the Executive branch, and possibly both House and Senate (House I can see, Senate may be more iffy) I hope we will enact the changes needed to secure our Constitution against all enemies. Yesterday I was thinking about if we need some version of the WWII Bretton Woods for how we should approach reforms and reconciliation. We have 19 days. We have so much work to do. We have the strength to complete this, so let's go forward. The future is holding us responsible to deliver the country through the fire. We will come out stronger on the other side. See you there.

and there are many reasons to hope that Dems will win big.

maybe even hold the Senate if they can bring down that very unpopular Ted Cruz.
