Jim Acosta reported earlier this week that Capitol Hill staffers and some members of Congress on the democratic side are quietly referring to Jeffries as the next “Merrick Garland” who will do nothing of significance to hold Trump accountable in 2027. It’s all quite depressing.
Anyone who believes Jeffries met with Kushner on “affordability” can be sure Hakeem just wanted Trump to know if Hakeem becomes speaker he is “affordable.”
I was on the fence about the meeting until I listened to your audio from yesterday. The argument from you that they are terrorists and you don't negotiate or concede to terrorists convinced me this meeting should never have happened.

True story. We have a friend from Colorado whose profession is golf-course landscaping. Many years ago, he was one of several landscapers who bid on one of Trump’s golf course developments. He even met with Trump, in person, twice during the bidding and negotiation phases. He submitted his bid with, as he puts it, all the good will and integrity with which he’d built up his business over the years. Trump then called him in for a meeting and said, « Reduce your bid by $50k and I’ll give you the job. » Our friend’s response was, « Sir, I wish I could, but to do so I wouldn’t be able to maintain the quality of workmanship for which I’m known. » End of meeting.
Not long afterwards, Trump sent out a memo to all the competitors for the landscaping contract saying, « [So-and-so] took the job for $XXXX » —which, sure enough, was about $50k lower—followed by « what a loser! »
Perhaps the only things I haven’t gotten exactly right are the quotations, but the gist of the story is 100% accurate.

Jeffries has no business being anywhere near the speakership. He is a catastrophe of a politician, the worst communicator in the party, feckless and NOT a fighter. His dead eyes, slack-jawed, drawn out sentences, his hunched demeanor: would you follow this man into combat? He must never, ever be elected speaker and if we Dems want to make sure there will be a reckoning in 2027, then make noise and make sure your congressperson gets the memo: No way, no how. Do not make Jeffries your Speaker.
Hakeem needs to resign. He isn't fit to be speaker. Raskin is.
