I loved Peter Gabriel immeasurably when he was with Genesis. I'd put him in contention as one of the defining voices of 70s rock. I tried to hold on when he left; Phil Collins at least superficially matches his range and style of delivery. But Wind and Wuthering, their last with Steve Hackett, is to these proggy ears unlistenable today. And then Phil Collins wanted to be a Supreme, LOL
I like Peter's first two solo albums very much (the 7/4 Solsbury Hill is a great song), loved the Robert Fripp input, but by the third album Peter was morphing. Some of where he went is immensely admirable and a lot of it is not to my liking. He was becoming political; Games Without Frontiers (title echoing Doctors Without Borders) and particularly Biko, about an infamous South Africa police murder of an anti-apartheid activist. But he was also getting into the not-so-wonderful world of early-80s electronic percussion and that Hugh Padgham gated reverb sound all over Kate Bush, 80s Genesis and especially Phil Collins -- the moment of its arrival is the air drummer's sacrament, the drum entry to In The Air Tonight. So by Shock The Monkey and Sledgehammer, I had pretty much lost interest, though I never, ever thought Peter was another virtue signaling celebrity wanker like Bono (who is, next to Peter Gabriel, a certified idiot) or, heaven forfend, the woman who collects orphan babies from nasty but interesting places around the world (and then has them raised by staff), Madonna. Peter Gabriel is an intelligent, moral, sincere guy. And a stone-iconic vocalist in any of his periods.

This was for the closing credits to WALL-E (best Pixar ever? I think so). It is impossible to describe how much I love the verse of this song. The lydian sonority is suffused with a shimmering, otherworldly beauty ....

I know Canada seemed to luck out with the last federal election. We had a conservative Pierre Poilievre who seemed to have an authoritarian slant to his rant. "Canada First" Jeez, then Trump endorsed him. That did it Donald thanks. We did come to our senses and voted in the Liberal leader Carney, and I am a New Democrat.. Thanks again Rick for all you do and folks keep supporting those who are bringing the straight goods to the table. The main street media seems to have capitulated to the dark side of the ledger.
