Thank you. It’s my deepest hope that this happens—that we can remember how different government should be from business, how coming together to make the world better is so much worthier a goal than self-centeredness, that we try again to be a more perfect union. I desperately want to revere the mission of the US again. Thanks for giving me hope.
"that we can remember how different government should be from business"
Also the government's not supposed to be entertainment, like the Housewives of Washington DC. It's supposed to be boring, tedious, and methodical, because that's how shit gets done. By hard work. Not by tweeting at 2 AM in the morning.
" he would never interfere as the DOJ pursued cases covering the sweeping Epstein coverup"
As long as the next Democratic president avoids the second biggest mistake Biden made: putting a feeble, weak, feckless, timid Attorney General in office like Merrick Garland, who was too scared to hold Trump and the criminal MAGA Republicans to account for their crime spree.
We need a pitbull to rip the MAGA's balls off.
What was Biden's first biggest mistake? Going back on his promise to be a transitional president and running for a second term. That's the main reason we have a second helping of Trump.

One other thing about this passage: "What’s left of the MAGA media screams about it, but the AG is tireless, meticulous, and lets the legal filings do the talking.'
NO, NO, NO!
If Trump taught us anything, it's to never stop messaging. If there's a vacuum of news about the Trump crime regime, the MAGAs will fill it with white washing, gaslighting propaganda. Just like they're doing now in congress trying to erase all memory of Trump's impeachments. The next administration needs to be out there on all platforms telling Americans what they're doing to hold Trump's crime regime accountable and how they're bringing back the rule of law.
This is so beautiful that by the end I could feel the tears gathering in my eyes. Like you, Rick, I have begun to hope that someday we will see this kind of White House again—a place of silence, decency, dignity, compassion, and competence.
Rick, I always considered you a fine writer, but this Substack article created a lump in my throat and brought tears to my eyes. I like this story. It's one I can believe in, and I shall vote for and hope for with all my might.
This is the kind of government and presidency I want. That we all need. Kinda boring for most citizens because they don't interact with it on a regular basis. Stuff just working.
But the reality is that "stuff just working" requires vast amounts of hard work, care, wisdom and dedication. And it goes all the way down. It's not sufficient to elect a few good leaders. The rank and file of the government, all the way down, need to be competent and dedicated as well.
Give them an environment where they are valued, respected and motivated and they will deliver good – kinda boring – government. No UFC cage matches required.
Pair this post with JoJoFromJerz's post about her explosion of hope because of the Knicks championship win for recognition of the power of people working together toward a common goal and achieving great things.
This gives me something to hope for. Something to hold on to. Thank you.
May it be as written.
Beautiful, Rick. (Red state Dem governor... just 1 talked-about possible candidate comes to mind - do you think he's The One for '28?)
I breathed a little more easily as I read this vision for our future. May it come to pass.

From your mouth to God’s ear… May your beautiful essay not describe an alternate reality, but our coming future. May it be so. ❤️
A balm to our weary souls- thank you!

I’m in, let’s make it happen.
Such a delightful glimpse into our future, now all we need is for the president to be a woman.
Thank you Rick!
Thank you so much, Rick for this article! I so needed something to calm my racing mind and aching soul.
Thank you. Just, thank you. Thank you for the breath I got to take, even for a moment. Hope.
That was wonderful, Rick. I think I exhaled for the first time in a decade
