Rick,

My heartfelt condolences to you, and the entire Cheney family, on the death of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

I didn’t agree with him on any issues, really, but I admired him for having the courage of his convictions by calling out Trump for being the fascist miscreant he is.

He struck me as someone who was “solid, steady, and true down to the core.”

May his memory be a blessing.

This is amazing, Rick. Your analysis is always so cogent, so easy to understand.

I once worked for the editor of a biomedical journal, a professor who also taught a class on scientific writing. He often reflected on how elegantly the best medical and scientific writers practiced their craft. They wrote so that laypeople could understand them. They avoided jargon. They used appropriate similes and metaphors. And they were not afraid to convey the wonder they found in their observations. Your essay reminded me of his words.

I liked your closing remembrance of Richard Cheney. I was never a fan of Cheney’s politics, but he touched my heart at the end with the way he supported his daughter Liz and the truth that she stood up for, even if it meant opposing the entire Republican Party.
